Fruita Monument senior Josh Stouder was the top medalist at the Montrose Invite at Black Canyon golf course. Josh fired a 2 over par 72 to hold off rival Jordan Jennings of Montrose and a talented field of Western slope golfers. Stouder was 2 over par on the front 9, but closed fast on the back with an eagle 3 on the 544 yard par 5 number 16. He held off Jennings with two pars to complete his round at 72. Jennings placed 2nd with a 73. This was the second tournament win of Stouder's career. Last year he also was the top medalist at the Haymaker golf course in Steamboat Springs.
The tree lined course caused other Fruita Monument problems as Kade Hayward shot an uncharacteristic 84, Booker Hapenstall and Kaleb Holm 95 and Kyle Mimmack 105. As a team the Wildcats finished 5th to winner Montrose.
Fruita Monument plays again August 20 at Battlement Mesa in the Tiger Invite.
